The profound Fasting Practice of Nyungne Retreat is a Tibetan Buddhist practice designed to purify negative karma and accumulate merit and wisdom. It involves in practicing centring on the strict keeping of vows, the generating of the Boddhisattva attitude and the recitation on the sadhana (meditation practice) of the Thousand-Armed Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of compassion. Additional commitments include strict silence and abstinence from intimate contact.
This Retreat will be held during the auspicious month of Sakadawa, the month commemorating the birth, enlightenment and parinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha. It is said that, during this time, the merit accumulated through performing virtuous activity is multiplied 100,000 times.
